It's our 7th Annual Spike ALS volleyball tournament and we have put on some pretty awesome events every year, something that we are very proud of. We only do this to raise awareness and funds for ALS. That's why we're asking our participants to help!
Fundraise as a team or individually. Every dollar raised makes a huge difference in our mission to make ALS history!
WHAT IS ALS?
Proceeds from Spike ALS will go toward the Christopher Chiu Fellowship for ALS research at the University of Toronto, Canada's largest and most internationally published ALS research lab.
ALS Double Play started when the Chiu family lost their son/brother Christopher to ALS in 2016 after a five year battle. Christopher was only 32 years old when he became sick with ALS and the family has no genetic relationship with the disease.
Spike ALS started because some of Christopher's friends from Beach Blast wanted to do something to help. Christopher spent many Thursday nights at Beach Blast, playing with his team, Dr. Diggers. Spike ALS started at Beach Blast and we spent 3 happy years there before circumstances and COVID19 changed this for us.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is the most common form of motor neuron disease. ALS is fatal; there is no cure and little treatment. Most people lose their battle with ALS within two to five years of diagnosis.
Living through the pandemic has been hard for many of us, now imagine living immunocompromised with ALS, relying on others to help you live each day. Living with ALS in a pandemic is not easy. Let's Spike ALS together for the entire ALS community.
We look forward to seeing you and your team at our 7th Annual Spike ALS tournament!
We ask that each team please bring at least one volleyball to use during the tournament. Make sure it's marked with your (team) name.
We will be in contact closer to the date regarding timing for the Recreational and Intermediate tournament timing.
See you on Saturday, April 25, 2026
